Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the communication patterns of pedagogic
communication between teachers and deaf students in building student competencies in the Pembina
Palembang State Special School (SLB). This research method is qualitative with a descriptive
approach through interviews, observation, documentation, literature study. The subjects of this
study consisted of teachers and students with hearing impairment at SMPLB grade 1 using the
symbolic interaction theory of Raph Larosa and Donal C. Reitsez (1993) as the theoretical basis of
the study entitled communication of pedagogic communication patterns between teachers and deaf
students in building student competence in special schools. N Pembina Palembang. Using
pedagogic communication is communication between teachers and students that contains
pedagogical elements that direct, guide and grow the potential. Most special schools in Indonesia
use the Total Communication method. This communication emphasizes that every child with hearing
impairment has the right to all means of communication that teacher pedagogic communication in
developing student competencies in the teaching and learning process for deaf students at SMP LB
N Pembina Palembang is quite good.
